5 Iconic Gaming Characters Completely Ruined By One Bad Entry

2. Duke Nukem - Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem Forever 610x343 I recall the days of playing the original Duke Nukem in the earlier 90's and not really getting it, as I was a child. Then as I grew up and played it again, it grew on me via its tongue-in-cheek hard-as-nails œber macho hero. Duke was a reaction to the action flicks of the 80's and early 90's. It was a product of its time and for its time, or a nice retro treat from time to time. So, when Forever was announced there was needless to say was a lot of buzz. That was in 1997, fifteen years later the composite of Commando, Rambo and others was not well received. Times had changed, tastes had changed but Duke did not and that was a huge problem. His shtick made little to no sense and was out of touch with little more than a few core segment of Duke fans. There was a time were his catchphrases alone (shamelessly ripped off from Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness) made him one of the best action characters ever devised. Had turned him into the annoying friend that loved the latest Die Hard film. This was a franchise that we are better off without.
