5 Most Memorable Video Game Hoaxes

4. Final Fantasy VII - Resurrecting Aerith

Aerith There, are you happy Final Fantasy fanboys? I've finally included her on a list about important things in video games. All jokes aside, while I fairly believe that some things are very overrated about the saga, the theory of resurrecting Aerith was one of the biggest ones discussed in the world of gaming. Her death meant so much for gamers that the idea of bringing her back to life was something that gave hope for those who missed her. What's The Story? The story behind her resurrection is a long one. The theory came out about 2 or 3 months after the game was released, mostly because everybody thought that it was impossible for a character as important as her to die in what was considered the greatest game that had come out at the time. But the funny thing is that no matter which site you read, the theory was a completely different one. Hell, even on the same site the theory wasn't the same. For example, you had to get 80,000 exp points so you can unlock a secret area of the game that allowed you to resurrect energy and then you had to defeat some kind of ancient god. Another theory said that you had to unlock or discover some secret artifacts hidden in some places in the game so that you can perform some kind of ritual (those artifacts probably are the Dragon Balls, based on the description) and another theory says that you had to finish the game without having any kind of damage so than you can resurrect her after the game was completed. You get the idea. The Truth Behind The Hoax I'm sorry to bring it to you guys, but she's dead. And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. All the ways to resurrect her have been debunked the second they came out and, despite how many of us may feel about it, her death played a big part in the game's story. And it was one of the few deaths in gaming that was very well handled, especially at the time. I'm not sure if the reason she died was because the mother of the game's director passed away or if it was because he felt it was a cool idea to do something as unexpected as that, but there was a very big reason for him to do something like that. If she came back from the dead, the whole thing would lose its meaning and the impact it had on gamers at the time. So I guess it was for the best for her to say dead.
