5 Reasons All Your Friends Are Playing League of Legends

3. It's Free-to-Play Done Right

There is such a massive amount of stuff to buy in LoL, it can be a little intimidating. However, I say it is free-to-play done right because of one thing. Most things that require you to spend real money are cosmetic. Nearly everything else can be purchased with in-game currency, earned by simply playing the game. Naturally you get more for a win, but you still earn points for a loss. It doesn't take inordinately long to save them up either. I had enough Influence Points to purchase my first champion of my choice (albeit a cheap one) within about 8 matches of starting the game. This is the perfect approach to a game like this in my opinion. Riot Games is basically saying "Look, there is all this cool stuff! You can give us a few bucks to have it now, or just keep playing and earn it over time. Your choice." It's refreshing to see a developer treat their customers with some respect, and not like we are just money cows waiting to be milked.
