2. It Fosters a Responsible and Sporting Community
In an incredibly ballsy move, Riot Games is handing the keys to the community over to players. First, they implemented a "leaver penalty". If your team is getting spanked in a competitive online game like LoL, many people's first reaction is to quit rather than finish the match. You can do that in LoL, but you won't like the consequences. The first couple penalties are mild: a warning followed by some short term bans. But keep leaving matches, and you will eventually not be welcome to come back to LoL at all. Second, on the homepage you can find the "Summoner's Code". It is basically a set of rules designed to make the game enjoyable for everyone. There is absolutely no way for the employees of Riot Games to respond to every violation of this code, so what did they do? They implemented the Tribunal. Once you attain level 20, you can log in to the website and begin reviewing reported violations of the Summoner's Code. By doing this, you also get rewarded. Sportsmanship is encouraged and rewarded, and leaving matches and other unsportsmanlike conduct are punished verily. This has built one of the friendliest, most responsible communities I have ever been a part of.
