5 Reasons Charlie Brooker Should Make Gameswipe: Part 2

2. Gaming Is Now Mainstream, Indie Market

Only in the last three years have we seen gaming change from being that of a pastime for the socially, physically and mentally inept. For individuals who speak in text language and are afraid of the white hot sun, into something all the cool kids can do in-between having lots of parties, sex and playing football. And this is an interesting change to the industry because we€™ve seen how companies have adapted their marketing strategy. Take last year€™s E3, when Usher jumped out onto the stage and started to dance like a bloody lunatic. Yes, it was for a dancing game and celebrity appearances are nothing new, but no way in Hell would that of happened a couple of years ago. Gamers don€™t care about him and rightly so, but developers have noticed their audience change and they have to change with it, leaving their old audience to wither and die in the terrible releases that follow. The indie market has boomed over the past couple years and is where €˜originality€™ can be found nowadays, even though most are about a large headed-child wandering through an unforgiving nightmarish world. But it is still a fairly new slice of the industry and would be interesting to chat about.

Thomas James Hunt is a British Video Game Critic who is a rather unpleasant character in the journalism world. So brace yourself for some nasty behaviour in the form of articles.
