1. It's All Lies
From the start, Heavy Rain places itself in a position above the player. It is a bizarrely omnipotent entity that tells the story how it wants and doesn't really care what you think or want. This cloud of bollocks decides to openly deceive you into thinking what it wants you to think. The fact that you can hear Scott's thoughts, but not know he's the killer. The fact that you can do so much work for Madison to find out the killer's name, and then you don't get to find it out yourself. The simple fact that a lot of the time your choices don't actually matter. It all combines to make an experience that I felt was just a giant middle finger to gamers. I loved Heavy Rain originally, and now I feel somewhat abused by it. I found it about as thrilling as eating a piece of chicken a day after it's use-by-date. This 'interactive drama' as it is so often called, is not the technological wonder it once was, and through the acceptable graphics, a less than satisfactory framework is revealed. But hey that's my opinion. Maybe Heavy Rain holds up well. What do you think of Heavy Rain now it's a few years old? Want to hate on me for my revulsion?
