5 Reasons The Forgotten City Is The Perfect Doctor Who Video Game

Today we live in a world where fangirls and boys can get their hands on perfect video game adventures to nourish their geeky loves, be they official or not.
Love Star Trek? Then explore the galaxy and save the universe in games such as Mass Effect or No Man’s Sky. Into your sword and sorcery? Then immerse yourself into one of the countless fantasy open worlds in games like such as Skyrim or Zelda. Want to be Spider-Man? Then play Spider-Man.
One show that has a huge cult following but no perfect game to capture that feeling is Doctor Who. Now, the Doctor has had many gaming incarnations ranging from puzzlers to VR experiences, to puzzlers that used to be VR experiences but now don't play as well as either, but nothing ever truly great.
However, there is one game that might keep Whovians happy.
The Forgotten City started as a mod for Skyrim, and over the last four years, three-game developers have taken the concept and created something truly special. It’s available on Xbox Game Pass now, and if you haven't played it yet we suggest you do before reading this list as there be spoilers.
Its short but brilliant story is utterly captivating, and if you're a fan of Doctor Who some aspects may appear familiar...
5. Time Travel
Let us get the massively obvious one out of the
way first. The Forgotten City features the ability to travel through time, but
much like Doctor Who, it’s not necessarily as simple as just hopping back and
forth.
After looking through some ancient ruins in the modern-day, you are cast back into ancient Rome, but alas, without a trusty TARDIS at hand it looks like you are stuck there, for now.
As well as the journey back to the past, The Forgotten City utilizes a time loop mechanic allowing you to live out your Bill Murray Groundhog Day fantasies and replay the same day over and over again.
It may sound confusing at first but it is all relatively simple, especially compared to other games such as 12 Minutes, which throws you into an incredibly anxious small space of time with no real explanation of what’s going on.
The Forgotten City encourages you to take your time. Literally. A lot of the puzzles and answers cannot be solved or revealed on the first day, but the game does a great job of keeping you on the right path without feeling overbearing.
