5 Reasons Why EarthBound Is The Most Exciting Video Game Of 2013

1. Breaking the 4th Wall

4th Wall The final reason why I love EarthBound and can€™t wait to play it on the Wii U is the fact that the characters of the game break the 4th wall like it€™s their job to do so. The police chief in Onett, Chief Strong, comments that playing EarthBound is hard. The helpful mole in the game that gives advice to the player talks about the buttons on the controller; also, when you get the map at the Onett Library, the worker references the buttons on the controller when telling you how to access the map. Almost every time a character breaks the 4th wall, they laugh and quickly correct their €œmistake,€ pointing out that EarthBound is, indeed, reality €“ at least to Ness. Finally, it is the player who actually ends up defeating Giygas, the main villain of the game. Without spoiling the ending too much, the player is asked to input his or her name into the game about halfway through game play. This name can be, and usually is, different from the name that the player gives to Ness during the initial setup. During the final battle, the name that gets inputted during game play is mentioned, and it can be a little unsettling if the player forgets inputting his or her name earlier in the game. This serves to break the wall between the player and the game, and it is a really cool way to involve the player in the climax of the story.
