5. Assassin's Creed 3
Now, what is there to be said about the much anticipated Assassin's Creed 3? I'm pretty sure the entire Internet has covered everything to love, but more-so everything to hate about this entry. Let me just say I did not hate AC3, I really liked it! In fact my first article for this website was the 10 reasons you should still be playing the game, because you really should! However, when playing the game and even more-so after completing it, I just couldn't put my finger on why I hated this game so much. Clearly it is a love-hate-relationship. AC3 felt rushed, it was sometimes game breaking-ly buggy, and there were so many plot holes and missed opportunities throughout the story that I can't even muster the energy to rant about it right now. The cities have no personality, and as a result just blur together, and about one-third of the way through the game I found myself using fast travel to go just about anywhere. The frontier felt pointless to travel and I was sick of being ambushed by waves and waves of guards when I had no notoriety. The game just did not feel complete and could have benefited so much from a little delay. (Look how well it worked out for Ubisofts other title Far Cry 3.) There were many things the game did do right. The combat was more fluid, and the side missions had a bit of depth. (Rivaling those of Red Dead Redemption, but never quite reaching Rockstars level.) The characters and some of the story were mostly intriguing due to some excellent voice acting. Quite a bit of new stuff was introduced, but it meant sacrificing some beloved things of past games, like climbing in cities, it was there but not nearly to the extent it should have been. Also, where in the hell were throwing knives? In the end I think we were all expecting the big leaps and bounds that AC2 took from the original AC. Unfortunately it ended up being more of the same packed into an extremely unpolished package. As a result, the game installed some AC fatigue in almost everyone.
