1. Assassin's Creed... Assassin's Creed EVERYWHERE!
It hasn't even been 6 months since the release of AC3. The first piece of The Tyranny of King Washington just released barely over a week ago, and two more installments are on the horizon. Yet, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has been confirmed for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, already has a rating, and an October 29th release date. It all just seems a little fast, especially since it is a numbered entry to the series. Rather than having spin-offs to Connors story, the series is already moving on to a new hero, a new time period, and the main focus is on pirates. According to Ubisoft, the protagonist will put his pirate duties before those of the Assassin's Creed. I thought the last game made you feel like you were hardly an assassin, I can't wait to see how they pull this one off. I guess I will try to hold off my judgement until we get more concrete details throughout the coming months. Still, it's hard to feel excited when it seems like I have been doing quite a lot of Assassin's Creed-ing in the last few years. It doesn't end there, currently there is an Assassin's Creed movie in production...pre-production...oh what does it matter, point is, it is happening, but does it really need to? When has a video game ever smoothly transferred into a great film? (If one has let me know below.) Turning a 20-plus hour game into an upwards of a 3 hour movie is damn near impossible. Well it is possible, but chances are you are going to be cutting quite a lot of important stuff. Or just giving up and writing your own story that just happens to have the same name of the game, like so many of the video game movies before. It seems they are trying to milk this franchise until it is absolutely dry. I am hoping Ubisoft doesn't go that route, because with this series they have created some of the best games around that still have so much potential. All they need to do is rest a little and find out what that potential is. Whether it be new mechanics, a new hero, or a new setting. (I don't think feudal Japan, or Imperial China could be requested enough.) Just take some time to figure it all out. We don't care if it takes a year, or 2, or even 5 for that matter. As long as you present us with something incredible that has the potential to blow AC2 out of the water, I will be patiently waiting, even if it is at my death bed. So there you have it, the five reasons why waiting a little while for a new AC installment could be great for the series and fans alike.
