5 Reasons Why The Assassin's Creed Series Needs A Break

2. Time

Assassins-Creed-2 Great things take time, as was the case when two years passed between the first game and the second. However, the second was so good we were willing to forgive that horribly frustrating cliffhanger of an ending that the first game left us with. In those two years the team over at Ubisoft improved on so many aspects of the game that it felt entirely fresh, but still managed to keep the few things that made us fall in love with the series in the first place. When the series started coming annually the improvements were few and far between. What we got was more of the same, which wasn't bad, but things always need to improve or they risk getting stale. When Ubisoft says that AC3 had been in production since January 2010, I find myself wondering what went so horribly wrong during production that they couldn't do enough play-testing to make sure the game was...playable? Of course when you have giant worlds you are bound to have glitches, but why have glitches become so acceptable? Some people argue that they were too ambitious with the game. They should have waited until the next generation of consoles that could handle all they were trying to do. Which brings me to my next point... Wait until the next generation consoles! Assassin's Creed games could very well be a system seller! With all their ambition, they could easily show off what the next generation is capable of. There is no reason we need six AC adventures on the current generation. Especially with AC4 launching at the end of October when we can be expecting the PS4, and maybe Microsoft's system, around that time. Ubisoft needs to bring the series right into the next generation and bring it strong. Not the same copy that can run almost as well on your old console. Finally, if they are worried about people losing interest in the series they just need to take a few hints from other companies, example: Rockstar Games. The ever popular Grand Theft Auto series only comes along every 4-or-5 years, yet every time a little hint of a GTA game (or any Rockstar game) comes along, the internet explodes! Old fans and new fans alike are excited to see what Rockstar has in store for us this time. In taking breaks between their games, Rockstar is able to see what worked, what didn't, what to improve on, and what to expand on. Every game gets more ambitious, and in turn gets better. No matter how long the fans have to wait, they will do it. (Impatiently, of course.) Rockstar Games constantly improve each entry in their series and that is why they are among the best of the best in the industry. It is also why their games, even those celebrating 10th anniversaries, are as popular as ever. It is not the quantity that keeps people coming back but rather the quality.
