4. Less Micro-Management
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tycIeIDUbw One of the goals that the Creative Assembly team have stated they have for Rome II is that they want to make it more user-friendly and focused on the important points of the game. To achieve this they have added several new features which are aimed at reducing the amount of unnecessary micro-management. Every Total War veteran knows that when you get to a certain point in a game, and are fighting wars on all fronts across a vast Empire, it is a real pain to have to go back and set taxation levels and manage construction for lots of individual regions back in your homeland. Thats why Rome II will debut a new Province system which will mean that several individual regions will make up a Province and can be managed centrally. These regions will still have to be conquered individually, so the game retains the same level of strategic depth in the campaign map. But the benefits of being able to manage a smaller number of provinces rather than individual regions will mean that the player can spend more time doing what everyone really wants; fighting the battles. The Rome II team have also worked to reduce the amount of micro-management involved with creating and maintaining armies. Rather than having to be overly focussed on individual units, the new system will have the player building and commanding whole Legions which are customisable and can gain traits. Not only will this ease the flow of the game - you will no longer have to move individual or small groups of units around the map. It will also make each game more unique as you build-up the traits of certain legions and design them to achieve specific tasks. Youll no longer have generic stacks of bland units. These new customisable Legions will have histories and identities and will almost be like characters in the game themselves. This can only add to the game and make players feel more immersed in each save they have.
