3. Superior Storytelling
There's something very confident about sprawling a story out in front of you and letting you work it out for yourself. In this day and age of horribly aggressive destination markers and patronising hand-holding, it is a breath of fresh air to be able to explore for yourself. That's exactly what Gone Home gives you - a freedom to lose yourself in this house as much as you want. Gone Home includes the whole house to explore, and upon going into a new room, I found myself settling into a routine. First off, find the light switch. Second, see what I'm actually looking at. And third, scour the whole place. In every single room, you are going to find documents and notes that enhance the story in some way. Some things are big plot points, others are just small character pieces, but they all help to draw you into the story of this family. The dad's work isn't going so well? The mum seems a little distant? The sister is in love? Go and find out why to all these questions and more. It is riveting because the pace is your own. You are your character. You just want to find out what happened. So go and do it... Of course there is one more sub-plot to Gone Home and that's the subject of our next point...
