5 Shockingly Dull Minigames (In Otherwise Awesome Games)

1. Fishing - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Even what is arguably the greatest game ever made can't escape the curse of the dull minigame. This highly influential title perfectly demonstrated how to do an action-adventure in 3D right. It was so successful that its mechanics such as Z-targeting are still used in games today - 15 years after its release. What the industry didn't draw inspiration from in Ocarina Of Time is its mundane fishing activity. It's tedious, clunky and somehow even duller than actual fishing. It's required to fully complete the game, as catching a fish that weighs more than 10 pounds will earn you a heart piece. So, how hard can catching a big fish be? Pretty damn hard, actually. You'll spend most of your time just trying to get the fish's attention and when one does finally take the bait, it'll most likely not be the one you want. There's a lot of trial and error involved. Apparently, the best time to fish is just before dusk or dawn. You can also boost your odds of catching a big one by fishing near the log in the pond. Still, even with these tips, catching a big fish and successfully reeling it in is mostly down to luck. Just bear in mind that the game tells you none of this and only gives you a basic overview of the controls, leaving you to work the rest out for yourself. Nintendo probably thought that the experience would help you grow as a person, teaching you to use your own initiative and stand on your own two feet, when in reality it just made us give up and go bully chickens in Kakriko Village instead. Do you agree with our list? If not, what would be your picks? Let us know in the comments.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
