1. Marketing And Purpose
The way in which Sony presented their console couldn't be more different from the way Microsoft presented theirs. Whilst the Playstation showcased some of its 'multimedia' attributes at its core it was all about the gaming experience. The 'Share' button in place of the classic 'start' button opened up a whole new concept of sharing the gaming experience across a kind of 'Gaming social network'. The XBOX thrived on its potential as a multimedia facility, so users can watch TV listen to music and use it as an entertainment centre for their living space. Whilst it does contain similar hardware to the PS4 it wasn't made to feel as a console anymore, clearly a tactic favoured by Microsoft CEOs to garner a bigger audience for their little black box, rather than targeting hardcore gamers, the people that made their sales figures for the XBOX 360 so high. Yes, it seems that this is the end of the fabled console wars: Microsoft have made their approach into a whole different category to Sony. The Japanese giant has put the most important thing first, the consumers. When it comes to winning a war, its loyalty that counts. Do you think the console war is over? Share your thoughts below.
