5. New Scares
What made the original so successful was it scared us in a way that no other game has scared us before. With no way to defend ourselves from threats, our only source of comfort was the warm embrace of the foetal position. However, after so much time and so many reaction videos being uploaded to Youtube, everyone has become accustomed to the atmosphere and the monsters. We're almost desensitised to it now that we've been pummelled into a messy pate by a grunt. That's not to say it isn't a great horror game, but in 2013 Amnesia it's become more of an endurance test rather than a gaming experience. With A Machine For Pigs, we start afresh. A new atmosphere filled with new scares and new monsters. When the sequel hits, there will be untapped feelings of wanting to dive right back into a story that we know is going to push the limits of what we think of as terrifying.
