5 Totally Insane Video Game Bonus Levels

4. Street Fighter II: Barrels & Cars For Everyone!

profile

Street Fighter, and the billion or so "sequels" that have followed, adhere to a fairly simple premise: beat stuff up, kick M. Bison and Akuma's ass, save the world or get valiant revenge, and repeat. Or just get intoxicated with your friends and proceed to beat each other up while mashing buttons. You say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to.

The bonus levels, however, are where things got... interesting. And also horribly complicated. The first bonus stage consisted of your character doing an impressive job of demolishing an unfortunate car with his or her bare hands (or in Chun-Li's case, feet). "Unconventional" as this was, it was nothing too weird, and then you got to the second bonus stage.

The second stage gave you 20 barrels to destroy. They would fall at intervals, and your character would have to time their attacks perfectly in order to destroy them. This sounded simple in theory, but was mind-numbingly frustrating in practice using an arcade system. Fortunately, for all it's frustration, the level was fairly brief, at which point you were free to take our your frustrations on your next opponents.
