4. Network Tycoon
That's right- managing you're own television network is the second idea on the list and it has a lot more going for it arguably than the Newspaper Tycoon idea ( what idiot thought of that... ). The player could build their own network schedule using shows from overseas as well as 'home grown' shows produced and then sold overseas themselves. The networks could also bid on massive sporting events and gala entertainment shows, as well as old movies. Talent could be hired and fired and lured from other networks to fill up the daytime talk shows or to host reality TV. Ratings would be the important thing here as the player would compete with other networks to get the lion's share of the people watching the telly. As they watch the telly people would also be watching commercials- so therefore the shows that got watched the most would have advertisers clamouring to get their ads seen on said channel. The more the ratings, the more one could charge to put ads on in the breaks of programs.
