‘Stop trying to make VR happen. VR’s never going to happen.’ - Pretty much everyone.

Yes, okay, VR is still in the early stages, and has a long way to go before it realistically can challenge traditional gaming. However, the fact remains that the prospect of a full immersive, virtual gaming world is so darn appealing (and lucrative) that the big boys of the gaming industry aren’t going to stop. With that in mind, take a look at Stormland, easily one of the most ambitious and potentially game-changing VR projects to date.

The game puts you in the body of an android who’s 9-5 revolves around gardening on an alien world. Think Wall-E for a good indication of the premise. However, unlike the vast majority of VR games which place the player on a predetermined path, Stormland aims to be closer to open world games like Skyrim or Breath of the Wild. Due for release in 2019 on the Oculus Rift, Oculus is billing the title as the ‘largest and deepest’ on the platform to date.

Whether you’re behind VR or not, a successful open world VR game could serve as a proof of concept that the technology has the capacity to suit the open world gaming experience, and inspire developers to take that plunge.
