5 Video Games That Shamelessly Ripped Off Zelda

2. Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden

Sacred Rise Now that we're coming into the final stretches, we can start to look at some complete and absolute shameless rip-offs. Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden for iOS is what modern Zelda gaming would look like if Nintendo placed it on a mobile phone or tablet. Developed by Gameloft €“ whose top iPhone games include Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Asphalt Airborne 8 and Marvel's Iron Man 3 €“ Sacred Odyssey takes heavy inspiration from Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time, dumping it into the fantasy-fuelled world as a bog standard cash-in. Players take control of Ayden, a grail seeker, who is sent to fulfil his destiny in order to save the lands of Lasgalen. Together with his two horses €“ Miya and Moto (what cracking names) €“ he starts his epic journey through dungeons and puzzles that Link is just itching to complete. But the comparisons don't stop there; spotted within the game is Ayden talking directly to a tree, trading with an eagle humanoid, a trapped Princess named Lyanora, fruitful journeys through dungeons in the forest, lakes, ice and volcanic mountains. And that's just the trailer! But hey, if you'd always wanted to control a mini Link on your phone or tablet, well, who are we to judge? If you've played at least one of the 3D Zelda games, you'll know Sacred Odyssey's core gameplay mechanics. You can use your sword to fight off enemies within the outside world or dungeons, as well as complete puzzles with various collectables along the way. Items found include the handy grappling hook, a magical gauntlet and a fancy boomerang €“ all staple items for an adventurer looking to defeat the dungeon puzzles and, eventually, the boss. It's a match made in iPhone heaven - we just hope Link doesn't mind Ayden stealing his thunder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_2aUN4FIys
