5 Ways To Win At Computer Game Press Events

3. Talking To People

I know this is a tough one. As a games journalist, the only people you talk to are NPCs and Steam€™s tech support, but bear with me. If you€™re the kind of bottom-feeding, journalistic plankton that€™s being invited to play Ed Smith Sim 2000 (you know, like me) then it€™s important to make friends with a few of the staff-writing basking sharks that have also turned up. These are the guys that can open doors for you; they have so many industry contacts that they need two Blackberries to hold them all. So pal up to them. I€™d like to be able to give you some advice on how to do this, but I€™m about as good with networking as a Nokia 3210 with its SIM card removed. Just don€™t be weird, yeah? Make sure you€™ve prepared something clever/funny to say about the industry before you go over and if you think it€™s appropriate, mention the work you€™ve been doing and what you€™d like to do next. If all that goes to plan, you can go for fourth base and slip them your email address, you playa.
