50 Essential Star Wars Games You Must Play

25. Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire (1995) - Windows, PlayStation, Mac

Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire is the sequel to Rebel Assault, containing mostly original live action material for its cutscenes . These was filmed with actors and actual props, while the scenery and the space scenes were 3D rendered. According to LucasArts' magazine The Adventurer, "this game was the first media to incorporate live-action actors and footage in the Star Wars universe since Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The stormtrooper armour, weapons, helmets and suits seen to be worn by the actors, were not made for the game, but are the actual props seen in the original trilogy, taken from the archive storage of Lucasfilm." That is pretty cool and should be reason enough to buy this game.

24. Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided (2003) - Windows MMO

SWG-1 Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) was a Star Wars themed MMORPG for Microsoft Windows and was released in June 26, 2003 to much critical acclaim. This game has a checked legacy yet remains engrained in the minds of fans everywhere. It spawned three expansions through 2005, though sadly, the last expansion generated controversy as it gave the game a complete overhaul and killed the series for many. The servers shut down on December 15, 2011, but should you wish to play it, apparently there are several private emulator projects in various stages of development that intend to allow users to experience Star Wars Galaxies in different incarnations of the game's existence. Here's hoping that SWG is reopened one day.

23. Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (2002) - Xbox, PlayStation 2

The sequel to Star Wars: Starfighter, Jedi Starfighter takes place just prior to the second Star Wars film's events and during the Battle of Geonosis. A fun space combat game for the most part. Its downfall is due to it promising so much. For most this game was a disappointment. However the level design and various ships make it decent.

22. Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron (2007) - PlayStation Portable

This will divide opinion: in my view, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is a great game. It centres around the Rebel Alliance covert ops unit Renegade Squadron, previously unmentioned in Star Wars canon. The single-player campaign follows the exploits of Renegade Squadron from its inception by Han Solo throughout its operational history, until its dissolution after the Battle of Endor. You can participate in several battles, including those of Yavin and Hoth. It is for that reason that I love it.

21. Star Wars: Starfighter (2001) - Windows, PlayStation 2

Star Wars: Starfighter is the original, and best, space combat game. Centred around the invasion that threatens Naboo, this game opens up one of the most cringe worthy elements of the series into one of the best.
