6 Completely Insane Things Video Games Asked Us To Do
2. Shove A Baby In An Oven - The Witcher 3
The Witcher is crammed with tricky choices. Triss or Yennefer? Both? (Spoilers: it doesn't go as well as you might hope)
One particularly insane choice however is that time the player has the option to throw a baby into a f*cking oven. Geralt is mainly known for his awesome white hair and voice more gravely than a freshly surfaced B-road, rather than his propensity to ponder the ethic dilemma of whether or not to roast an infant.
The mission in question sees Geralt attempting to free Udalryk from the hym that is possessing him. The short hand version of this involves the player being handed a baby and told to throw it in an oven in an attempt to trick the hym. You don't know it's a trick either at that point (the oven has a back door through which the baby is saved immediately), so as far as the player is concerned at that point you just cooked a baby. Nice job, you monster.
Cool as Geralt is, baby murderer might be leaning a little too far into the straight up 'bad' side of 'badass', and the guilt that accompanies this sequence, at least until it is revealed the baby is alright, sticks with you in a way few other dificult choices in video games have ever accomplished.
