6 Final Fantasy Sequels That You Didn't Know Existed
1. Final Fantasy Tactics S
Final Fantasy Tactics stands out to this day as one of the greatest yet underrated games of all time. It's twisting narrative is one of war, betrayal and manipulation, with a bodycount that puts the rest of the series to shame. The game was followed by two simpler yet just as enjoyable sequels, Tactics Advance in 2003 and Tactics A2 in 2008, which together sandwiched the release of a vastly enhanced remake of the original in 2007.
Despite the various plaudits that the series has received from critics and fans alike, it has now been almost a decade since Square-Enix visited it, aside from an ill-advised foray into the world of mobile gaming.
Final Fantasy Tactics S barely lasted a year before it was pulled from the market. Despite featuring a whopping fifty one job classes, which in theory should've enabled extensive customisation, it had absolutely zero depth. Following in the footsteps of the majority of the company's mobile games, progress resulted solely from occasional clicks on the screen, with all combat automated (making the 'Tactics' element of the title completely redundant...)
The Tactics' series actually has great potential as a mobile title, given how networking could facilitate in-depth battles between competitors. Tactics S was an insult to its name, however, and it remains to be seen if and when a Tactics game will be seen again given the damage that has been done.
