6 Key Details As Pro Evolution Soccer Series Becomes EFootball

1. Free To Play

The biggest change in the series is that eFootball will now be a free-to-play title for all, rather than players having to buy a yearly edition.

It is a move we have seen many developers make in recent years, with games such as Fortnite pulling it off with great success; allowing players to buy in-game content. An eFootball developer stated the reason for this move was the success of their mobile version of PES, which is free but then offers in-game purchases.

Even with the number of copies of PES sold each year continuing to fall, it is a bold strategy that hasn't been used on major consoles in sports games before.

In recent years, PES has focused content on MyClub. A similar mode involving player collection and building a team appears to be at centre of this new model, with the option of buying players with money.

It is likely to attract more casual players to try the game out, but will it be a success or the end of Konami's football journey?
