6 More Video Game Endings That Were Profoundly Insulting

2. Batman: Arkham Asylum

The Batman Arkham series is rightfully lauded as the greatest set of superhero games ever created, and while fans rabidly debate on which game is the best of the bunch, the killing blow that keeps Asylum from the top spot (and lingering in second place behind City) is its disappointing boss battles.

There’s the repetitive Titan grunt fights sprinkled throughout which begin to feel old hat long before the game is finished throwing them at you, but the number one problem is the final fight of the game atop Arkham Asylum vs. Titan Joker.

For the majority of the game, Joker has been a perfect villain, taunting the Bat while executing his master plan perfectly across the night. Rather than have a final confrontation that addresses Joker’s strengths as a psychological villain and dark reflection of Batman, the game has him inject himself with the Titan formula, swell up to the size of an elephant and engage in a game of fisticuffs. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise tonally perfect game. The goofiness factor might be excusable if the fight was even fun or challenging. Instead, you just run around, avoiding Joker’s claws, beat up a few thugs, grapple onto Joker’s back and repeat until the fight’s over. Yawn.
