3. Your First Kill - Vampyr

Coming right at the beginning of a game steeped in a very affecting and worthwhile atmosphere, Vampyr's tale of Doctor Jonathan Reid (a former expert in blood transfusion) now becoming a vampire and creature of the night, is one of the best premises in recent memory.

Pulling no punches right out the gate, no sooner has Reid awoken in a dazed, blood-deficient state, that he begins stumbling forward, seeing the world in black and white as his new instincts start to kick in. In this state his hearing is muffled, his breathing strained and his movements lethargic, seeking only a human target to feed on, despite not wanting to succumb to such nightmarish urges.

After a few moments you find a woman who appears to know you. She embraces you in this weakened state, though Jonathan doesn't know why. In a moment of sheer survival, he feasts on this person... only to realise it's his sister, who was scouring London's underbelly to save him.

Talk about one hell of a motivator for the plot to take and run with. Sadly the rest of Vampyr isn't as well written or engaging as this opening, but what a way to kick your story off.
