Vault 75 took the dreadful idea of the Vault Experiment to a whole new level by targeting children as the main 'test subjects'.

You can find the entrance to Vault 75 underneath the Malden Middle School. It's located eastward of Medford Memorial Hospital and directly north of Malden Center.

The primary objective of Vault 75 was far from saving children and their adult guardians from nuclear holocaust as advertised. The Vault was created with the express purpose of 'purifying' the human genome by picking out the most 'excellent' children in a grand-scale, inhumane eugenics experiment.

When the bombs fell in 2077 and the children along with their guardians were herded into the Vault, the adults were summarily executed while the children were forced through a series of tests bordering on torture to find out the 'best' ones of the bunch.

The ones emerging on top of everyone else would continue to be raised until 'Graduation'. Then, they would be 'harvested' - which, according to in-game documents - would also kill them. The smarter ones in the bunch would be able to join the scientific teams to continue the experiment.

At least, that was the arrangement up until a bloodied, merciless breakout occurred when the youngsters collectively rose up under the command of a 'graduated' scientist who was appalled by the experiment. The Vault was broke open and the inhabitants were either killed during the uprising or escaped the Vault into the wasteland.

During your visit to the Vault, you aren't able to find much of intrigue other than it being a military camp for the Gunners. Still, the audio logs that were left behind by the previous inhabitants succinctly tell the story of just how messed up this universe is.
