6 Ups & 9 Downs From No Man's Sky
3. The Extremely Fair Death System
Even the most amateur No Man's Sky players won't die all that much throughout their travels, but if you do, the game is extremely fair about it.
99% of your deaths are going to come from space pirates attacking you in orbit, as Sentinels on-planet can almost always be defeated or fled from before death occurs, but in space it's not quite so easy.
In the event of your ship being blown up, you'll lose your cargo, but are given a marker to return to your "grave" and retrieve all your loot. While it's possible you may face more resistance when you get there, in our experience the pirates have typically moved on and you can easily get your wares back.
Though this arguably drains a lot of the game's tension away, given how frustrating it can be to spend half an hour mining rocks only to lose it all, this is very fair and ensures that death is merely a brief inconvenience rather than an actual chore.
