It pains me to say it, but Sonic The Hedgehog these days is best compared to one of those ageing nostalgia bands who are only really good for cranking out the classic hits for the fans and who should have abandoned trying out new material a while ago. Never was this clearer than when Sonic Generations was released and quickly revealed itself to be the best Sonic game for, well, generations. Somewhat ironically, reusing these old locations and enemies seemed to give the blue blur a new lease of life, taking some of the series best loved classic levels and adapting them into both eye-blistering speed runs and the more sedate platforming runs that the fans had been crying out for since Sonic & Knuckles faded into sepia-tinted memory. It was thrilling, it was nostalgic and it had one of the best soundtracks of any video game ever. Given the fact that it was actually reviewed rather well, certainly better than any entry in the series since Sonic Adventure 2, you'd have thought that Sega would have got Sonic Team working on a second set of fan-pleasing levels straight away. No, instead they got a different developer entirely to start cracking on with Sonic Boom. It's almost like they want Sonic to die or something. Which of these games would you most like to see reborn?
