6. Sid Meier's Pirates!

Sid Meier might be best known for his work on the Civilisation series but before all of that, he worked on Sid Meier's Pirates!, a game that may look primitive by today's standards but it was one of the first games that offered people the opportunity to be a pirate so should be respected for that alone.

The game is surprisingly open for something that was released all the way back in 1987. You serve under the Kingdom of England, the Dutch Republic, the French colonial empire, or the Spanish Empire at first yet have the option to gain alliances with the other kingdoms or of course, become a pirate, it's kind of in the name.

The game allows you to attack other ships, hunt for buried treasure, and recruit more crew-mates. Everything on a pirate's too do list.

Your goal is to acquire wealth so you are rich when you finally retire, which you'll basically have to do when you get too old.

The more wealth you accumulate, the easier a life you will have in old age. This makes the game addicting as you keep retrying to see just how rich you can get beforethe end. To succeed you gotta be on that grind.
