The premise of Guacamelee! is both very interesting and rarely seen: it is based on Spanish/Mexican folklore and culture, and it's difficult to recall any other game that went on an a similar exploration romp. Aside from the rock solid gameplay foundation (the combat is really great), this new take on the classic fairytale where a princess gets rescued by a knight works wonderfully well. Seeing things from a new perspective is always a good thing, and this game nails it in that regard. One could describe it as both a celebratory and comical take on the given cultural influence, and while I doubt anybody would be offended by its humour, don't expect to enjoy the game much if you can't take a joke, even if most of it is tongue-in-cheek. Graphically, Guacamelee! is a beautifully stylised piece of software, with great animations and even better soundtrack. Even those who don't fancy this culture much will probably like this game simply because it's really wonderful, regardless of its setting. With many diverse game mechanics, a huge "open" world and long storyline, this is a game that won't leave you wanting. Just don't expect it to be easy, trust us on this one.
