7 Brilliant Platformers You Have Got To Play

2. Terraria

Terraria is a legendary game by now, second only to Minecraft, or as it shall be known from now on - the CoD of sandbox games. This status wasn't achieved on pretty eyes, but on extremely precise controls and sometimes tediously difficult Castlevania-like dungeon raids. When comparing Terraria and Starbound, for example, it's quite obvious which game aims higher, but right now Terraria is simply the more polished product. It's perfectly stable, well-optimised and deliciously fun to play. These traits (aside from the fun factor) are still lacking from Starbound, so technically Terraria comes out as the better game. For now. If you haven't already, grab it and try it out, and you'll see what the fuss is about. This is one of those games that will grab you and won't let go until your girlfriend dumps you, your family denounces you and you get fired. The worst of all, even when all of that takes place, you won't collect all the items nor defeat all the bosses. There will always be something more to do ingame; an additional room for your castle you've got to build, a Christmas event that has to be completed, a Sniper Rifle that needs to be collected. It drags you in, that's what it does. Good luck quitting the game. Who hasn't lost tens or even hundreds of hours crafting an furbishing his world to perfection? Or perhaps chasing down Skeletron before entering the dungeon? In case you've been living under a rock for some time now, Terraria has lately received a number of high-profile patches adding a lot of new stuff in the game. This has effectively doubled its audience and gave it somewhat of a second wind. Soak it all in. We've got a feeling that there's more coming soon.
