7 Censored Video Games That Went Way Too Far

Running With Scissors

This 2003 release immediately generated enormous controversy due to its extreme violence and racial stereotyping.

The game was never released in Australia, New Zealand and Sweden for these reasons. Some notable features included in the long list of reasons the game was banned in the aforementioned countries was the ability to urinate on the dismembered corpses at a terrorist training camp, and violence toward animals.

Despite this, the creators refused to censor any of these aspects of the game, even if it meant it could not be sold abroad. The one aspect they did eventually consent to change was an in-game arcade machine that initially displayed a homophobic, albeit non-playable, game.

This arcade game was changed to a fishing game called ‘Bastard Fish’ in patched releases, after the developers confessed they felt it had been a step too far.
