7 Major Worries About The Nintendo Switch

2. Relying On Legacy Alone Is A Dangerous Game

"You're only as good as your last success" is a time-tested adage for a reason, and as Pixar were finding out - until Inside Out came alone and rectified things, anyway - there's only so much goodwill people can afford any company, before the conversation turns to "... but what have you done for me lately?"

Indeed, although there was no mention of virtual console support during the livestream, Nintendo have said that the 'free monthly game' you'll be getting is a NES/SNES title. This is all well and good - some of the best games of all time are on those consoles - but when they're available for free on an emulator, or haven't always 'aged with grace', shall we say, it's going to end up making Nintendo's paid service fall in with the likes of Sony and Microsoft's, as people will no doubt claim there are 'way too many pixel platformers'.

Nintendo made a really big song and dance about how their various other consoles have paved the way for gaming as a medium, yet they already expended their 'benefit of the doubt' allocation with the cack-handed promotion and support of the Wii U.

Saying "Trust us, we got this" when you've already messed up for years is incredibly worrying.
