7 Memorable Zelda Dungeons: Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Stone Tower Temple - Majora's Mask
If there's one thing you can take away from the dungeons of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, it's that quality is greater than quantity. Majora's Mask only has four dungeons - the least amount in any Zelda game - and while the first three are fairly average, the final dungeon more than redeems them.
The Stone Tower Temple is a gift that keeps on giving. Before even entering the dungeon players are treated to a thought-provoking journey through the mysterious Ikana Canyon. This barely inhabited area is incredibly creepy, and as Link climbs up to the dungeon the player is treated to some fascinating backstory about the Ikanas attempt to reach the gods.
Unlike the other dungeons of Majora's Mask, the Stone Tower Temple requires the player to use every mask at their disposal. Having to alternate between being a Zora, Deku, and Goron creates a fantastic gameplay dynamic that had not been explore in the game until this point. The Stone Tower Temple also introduces the Giant's Mask, which is put to wonderful use in the battle against Twinmold, the giant insect boss of the level.
As respectable as the use of masks is in the Stone Tower Temple, it isn't nearly as impressive as the dungeon's greatest accomplishment. Halfway through this dungeon the player obtains the Light Arrows, which are used to turn the entire dungeon upside down.
Link then reinvestigates the temple, but now that it's flipped, it is practically a brand new dungeon. Not only is this an incredibly unique idea, but the design of the dungeon is flawless, making the Stone Tower Temple utterly unforgettable.
