7 Pieces Of Tech From Video Games That'll Actually Exist Soon

5. Laser Guns From Every Vaguely Futuristic Game Ever

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RyFcBcLOZM Ok, so video games can't take full credit for pioneering the idea of laser weapons, but it is something that you can reasonably call a 'video-game' technology on based on how prevalent it is in the medium. While handheld laser guns are some way off (so were handheld computers 30 years ago), Boeing is currently working on its High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator (HEL MD). The weapon is capable of taking down rockets by focusing extreme heat on incoming missiles, causing them to detonate mid-air. The laser weapon can run on regular diesel fuel, making the takedown of rockets much more frugal than the $100,000 required for an defensive missile. This system can be operated by just two people - one on a laptop, and the other an an Xbox controller. Yes, this giant beam of death will actually be controllable by gamepad because Boeing wanted to make the controls instantly familiar to anyone using the system. They clearly haven't taken into account that more people are familiar with PS4 controllers in this console generation, but hopefully they can add compatibility for it in a future patch. Best of all, because the lasers are silent, they'll have sound effects added to them to make them easier to track when fired. I think they should go for the retro high-pitched "choo" or, to make it more intimidating, maybe a deep bassy buzz. Which sound do you think should be applied to real-world lasers?
