7 Problems With Nintendo At Corporate Level

6. Stop Being So Stubborn With The Games We Get (And When We Get Them)

F Zerox As mentioned before, Nintendo have one of the most impressive untouched gaming libraries on the planet. They have a massive list of titles that modern gaming audiences would love to enjoy all over again. Todays gaming climate also offers a wealth of ways that they could utilize these sought after classics. So why do they insist on making most it unavailable? Nintendo's Virtual Console is considerably under utilized, considering the vast amount of games belonging to the company that gamers would jump at the chance to re-play. Currently the 3DS version only supports games from the NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Sega Game Gear while the Wii U version only supports NES and SNES. That means there are no Nintendo 64 titles available to owners of either console, which is insane considering how popular those games were. What's most frustrating is that the reason they do it is probably so that they can release these titles as full games with new 3D features, much like they did with Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time. Instead of forcing loyal fans to continually buy the same games over and over, they should instead be allowing them to choose which historical games they want to play. Nintendo most likely think they can make more money releasing old games periodically in 3D but I'm of the mindset that making them all readily available for purchase would make them much more money in the long run. And it's not just the Virtual Console where Nintendo continues to be stubborn. Fans have been telling them for years exactly what they want in terms of console games. Instead their releases have followed somewhat of a pattern of variations of Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong instead of taking full advantage of the characters at their disposal. While we are on our 13th installation of the Mario Party series, other fan favorites like F Zero and Mega Man have yet to make an impactful console appearance. For years, Pokemon fans have been telling Nintendo in droves that they want a console game based on the brand. While a Pokemon MMO is probably not a feasible approach for Nintendo to take, surely an open world Pokemon Snap type game is well within their wheelhouse. It would certainly be a perfect time to do so with the Wii U tablet being the perfect add on for such a game. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will happen. Launch titles for both 3DS and WiiU were disappointing and only recently has the future for the Wii U become a bit brighter with a new Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers and Bayonetta down the line. Wind Waker HD was well received, but not as well as a NEW Zelda game would have been and even the most loyal Nintendo fans must be getting sick of the continual re-releases of old games at full price. Granted the 3DS did get a new Zelda but the decision seemed strange considering they're trying to sell a new console. They need only look at the Playstation Store to see that it could be hugely beneficial as Sony have a wide range of PsOne and Ps Two classics available for purchase. Nintendo have always wanted to keep firm control on their games but there must come a time when they realise they are much better off making their history available to fans.
