6. Franchise Has Been Neglected
Ape Escape has been neglected over the past decade and it's a shame. The main series of games last saw a release in 2005 with Ape Escape 3, and the latest release was PlayStation Move Ape Escape in 2010, a glorified minigame that aimed to boost the peripheral's sales. While characters have cameoed in other games such as Metal Gear Solid and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, it isn't the same.
What really makes this infuriating is the fact that Sony do actually keep teasing a return to the franchise but seem adamant on not following through with it. In 2016, the official Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Twitter account tweeted out an image of one of the iconic monkeys, with the caption "2016 Year of the Monkey. Today, SCE will begin working! #Monkey #YearofMonkey”.
It seemed like the franchise would finally see a return but this tweet led to nothing. No game was announced that year and fans are still left wondering why Sony would even tweet out such a blatant tease for the series if they weren't planning to actually bring it back.
