7 Shared Universe Video Game Theories That Might Actually Be True

6. Soulsborne Theory

The worlds of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne might seem vastly different on the outside, but when delving a little deeper, it becomes a lot more plausible that the worlds are in-fact connected. Let's start with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

Putting aside the fact that they are inherently similar games, the theory connecting the two worlds hinges on a cut world from Demon's Souls. In the hub world, there are multiple Archstones, one of which is shattered and unusable. This Archstone leads to "the great giants of the northern lands", which is in fact, thought to be Lordran, where the gods are considered giants.

The more interesting connections, however, come in tying the Souls games to Bloodborne. During the Ringed City DLC for Dark Souls 3, you are tasked with retrieving the titular Dark Soul to that an NPC can paint a new world for people to escape into. However, you end up with 'The Blood of the Dark Soul' which is used to create this new world. Seeing as this world is derived from blood, it is thought that the new world is the world of Yharnam.

And then there is Chester, an NPC in the first Dark Souls, who looks so out of place in this medieval world. His garb and fighting style mimics the hunters of Yharnam, suggesting that he doesn't belong in the world. Which is made all the stranger when he says:

"Let me guess... Grabbed by a shadowy limb and dragged off to the past?"

Could he have been snatched from way in the future, beyond the world of Dark Souls entirely? It's very plausible.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
