7 Steps to Making a Memorable Video Game Villain
6. Great Voice Acting
Okay, now you see why not every trait in the list will be applicable to every villain. Ganondorf is considered one of the most iconic villains of all time, and we have yet to hear his voice. Hopefully, it stays that way in my opinion, but it is remarkable how much a voice can amplify a villains charm. That is one of videogames grand pleasures. The actor may not look the part, but as long as his/her voice is enough, then they can be on board. The Joker in the Arkham is a great example. Can you imagine Mark Hamill in multicolored attire, green hair, and clown makeup? Not really. But can you also imagine a better voice, timing, and oral expressions for the sinister clown of crime? The Jokers actions happen to be just as malignant, however, so many may take his voice for granted. Sometimes a suitable voice is the only requirement. Andrew Ryan from Bioshock, for example, looks as feeble as a hamster, until he utters his famous line:A man chooses. A slave obeys.
After this, everyone knew that his balls belonged in steel refinery. His voice still echoes in my head as I type this, since his timing, accent, tone, and overall owning the room delivery boiled my inner badassery bars into clean steam. Shame I had to smack him to death with his cane afterwards.
