7 Times Video Game Companions Were Better Than Real Friends

5. Tails - Sonic The Hedgehog

We all remember the first time we spun ourselves silly through Green Hill Zone; the birds and the rabbits that hopped free, spinning through the loop-the-loops and challenging one of those rare ‘real’ friends to who can finish the level fastest.

Then we reached Labyrinth Zone, and heard that hideous, heart attack-inducing countdown to our drowning demise. In what is probably the first ever case of mass rage-quitting, many of us never beat Labyrinth Zone, and it was going to take something special to bring us back.

That something special was a fox. With two tails. That could fly like a helicopter. Actually, now that I say that, why haven’t there been more games featuring our favourite, tail-spinning candidate?

In what is the only cross-over of real and video game friends on this list, Miles "Tails" Prower represented one of the earliest opportunities to take on villainous, egg-shaped Doctors with a friend in the hot seat next to you. Sure, he couldn’t always keep up with the titular road-running hedgehog, but every time Tails got lost, he’d soon helicopter himself in and re-join the action. Now that’s loyalty like none other!
