7 Most Unique Boss Battles Of All Time

4. Mr. Freeze - Batman: Arkham City

In 2009, the relatively unknown British studio called RockSteady took one of the world's most iconic symbols and gave him a game hailed as the greatest superhero video game of all time. Indeed, Batman: Arkham Asylum proved to be amazing not only story wise, but also through its gameplay depicting the Caped Crusader's stealth and hand-to-hand arsenals of combat. Unfortunately, one of the game's few flaws were the boss fights, which fell into the repetitive category I described in the introduction. Though the character designs were beautiful, the scuffles between Batman and his rogues' gallery consisted of redundant actions (mostly dodging and striking). RockSteady learned from its mistake in its superior sequel Batman: Arkham City, which featured much improved boss fights. However, chief among these was the penultimate one, pitting the Bat against Mr. Freeze. Though the execution was rather poor on the narrative front, the brawl's distinctiveness was more than enough to make up for it. Rather than utilize the same sneaky tactic each time, Batman would have to come up with a new strategy to fight him as Freeze would learn from his mistakes and change his defenses accordingly. Those who played the new game plus mode on hard found that they had to employ literally every stratagem in order to finally beat Freeze. Unique indeed.

Red Stewart is big fan of the entertainment industry, with insights into film, television, and video games for starters. Despite growing up in the 21st century's era of modernization, he prefers many retro era ideas over the current trends found in many of today's media. Personally he's an introvert who loves reading as much as gaming.
