Konami was a corporation that was known for pushing the boundaries on what video games could be and do, with many famous/infamous franchises including: Castlevania, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Mortal Kombat being produced. The next big target the company embarked upon was the stealth genre, and in 1998 delivered Metal Gear Solid. This action-adventure game featured Solid Snake, a famed soldier and infiltrator who's tasked with breaking into a terrorist organisation's headquarters and neutralising their nuclear threat. While Snake encounters many unique bosses in the wonderfully penned story, the game's most noted challenge comes in the form of Psycho Mantis, a psychic who practically reads the mind of the player by going through the game's memory card and reversing the controls. While I won't spoil the solution for those who haven't played the game (though many probably have had it ruined), it goes without a doubt that the fourth wall capabilities of Psycho Mantis gave him more than enough reason to be among gaming's most unique boss battles.
Red Stewart is big fan of the entertainment industry, with insights into film, television, and video games for starters. Despite growing up in the 21st century's era of modernization, he prefers many retro era ideas over the current trends found in many of today's media.
