I know several people must be pointing out two things wrong with my number one choice; that the Colossi aren't really bosses since they're the only enemies in the game, and that either way it's unfair to group all 16 under one category. Firstly, regarding the first point, I have to disagree as every Colossus represents the end of a goal, which is what bosses are meant to serve as; a checkpoint in a character's journey. With regards to the second, I view each as a 1/16 of sorts for the game's real enemy of remorse. Anyway, Shadow of the Colossus is a game that's name has reached the ears of many gamers worldwide. Often cited as evidence for the argument of video games being a form of art, SotC depicts the odyssey of a young man named Wander who, wanting to bring back his friend from her unfair sacrilegious death, is tasked with killing sixteen towering colossi drifting through the forbidden land. What makes this gorgeous group of behemoths the most unique boss battle in the history of gaming are a couple of notable facts, the first being that each giant is a special puzzle to be solved. They're not all beaten by just walking up to them and slashing them to death; each must be found, somehow climbed, and finally have their weak spot deduced before becoming prey to Wander's blade. The second reason is a bit harder to explain because it involves something very special to the game that can only be truly experienced by a personal playthrough. As stated before, the colossi are the only enemies present in the game. As such, SotC does something extraordinary by forcing the player's mind to subconsciously slip into the morality territory most video games try to avoid via distractions and diversions. By giving minimal backstory on both the girl you're trying to save and the creatures you're killing, each fight turns into a painful experience as you're forced to ask yourself "why" you're doing what you're doing to them. And that is precisely why the Colossi from Shadow of the Colossus represent the most unique boss fight the gaming community has produced so far. Red Stewart is big fan of the entertainment industry, with insights into film, television, and video games for starters. Despite growing up in the 21st century's era of modernization, he prefers many retro era ideas over the current trends found in many of today's media. Personally he's an introvert who loves reading as much as gaming.
