7 Upcoming Video Games That Could Cause Major Controversies
2. Red Dead Redemption 2 Glorifies Crime
It's a game by Rockstar. This one is definitely happening.
Famous video game hater Jack Thompson may no longer have a law degree, but expect a media field day over... something... in RDR 2. This is definitely not helped by the fact that Rockstar has a tendency to try to one-up itself in terms of shock value with every new release. That ridiculous torture scene from GTA V comes to mind here.
The first Red Dead Redemption may not have kicked up as much of a fuss, but the sequel looks like a fundamentally different experience. RDR was about the story of John Marston righting past wrongs and helping law enforcement catch criminals. Sure, the capacity for murder sprees was there, but it wasn't the main point of the game.
However, RDR 2 is heavily rumored to be a prequel to John Marston's struggle. Which means players will get to relive every bank robbery, murder, and other criminal acts perpetuated by Marston's gang, something that was only touched upon in the original.
Yes, the main character may be a straight-up criminal. While it will definitely not be the first game to do so, the high profile of Rockstar games guarantees that this game will kick up an incredible fuss in the media.
