7 Ups & 6 Downs From E3 2019

2. Next-Gen Arrived With A Whimper

Project Scarlett
Microsoft

Now, this is kind of a double-edged sword. It was admittedly exciting to see Microsoft confidently come out at the end of their conference to reveal Project Scarlett, the company's next generation console set to launch in 2020, but the information that was announced felt a little bit underwhelming.

In fact, when it came to the reveal of the machine's specs, there wasn't much to differentiate Scarlett from the PS5. The Wired interview with Mark Cerny already detailed the kind of features players should expect to see going into the next consoles, including ray tracing and an in-built SSD. Consequently, Sony kind of undercut Microsoft's grand reveal, and made them look a little silly for putting on such a lavish unveiling just to reveal information that the competition announced in a low-key interview.

Both "reveals" were pretty much on the same level as far as how much information was shared, which only made Microsoft's showing feel a little underwhelming when all was said and done. At least Halo: Infinite looks great, anyway.
