7 Video Game Developer Reputations That Died This Generation
7. Konami
Going into this generation, Konami were one of the all-time greats.
Holder of everything from Castlevania to Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer to Silent Hill, little did we know just how much they were going to butcher their own properties in the name of profit.
See, Konami realised across this generation that they'd rather focus on the wings of their company that specialise in gambling machines and mobile games. Once 2020's Dragon Collection and Sengoku Collection amassed millions of players and billions of yen in profit, it was off to the races.
Why care about putting anything out with any sense of memorability when you can cash in til the cows come home? Silent Hills was cancelled, Metal Gear Solid 5's closing chapter was left unfinished, and a major falling out with Hideo Kojima himself whipped up a firestorm of sheer hatred for where the company's priorities now lay.
Even worse was the "return" of both MGS and Silent Hill as pachinko machines, after the godawful Metal Gear Survive was so rote and predictable, it failed to chart in the West.
As if enough damage to their brands hasn't already been done, we're now getting Metal Gear Solid 6... but without Kojima.
