7 Video Game Stories That Were Spoiled Before Release
4. Halo 2
While it's much easier for leaked content to spread online these days (thanks Twitter), leaks could and did happen back when the internet was much more youthful.
Case in point: Halo 2.
Due to release in November 2004, a stolen copy of the game was uploaded to pirating sites almost a month before its official date, meaning that the entire game - including its story - was out there for people to discover, if they wanted to read about it.
Understandably, Microsoft wasn't too chuffed about one of its flagship titles spilling its guts all over the web a few weeks early. It was speculated that the illegal copy had been stolen from a disc-pressing plant in Europe, and in response, the company said that it was "aggressively" pursuing the people responsible, and would consider it "theft" if anyone played the game or shared it with others.
While a modded Xbox was required to actually play the stolen game (and it was in French), there was nothing Microsoft could do to prevent players from sharing images and videos that spoiled the story. After all, once something is on the internet, you can't realistically hope to remove every last trace of it.
