Hollywood seems to be slowly testing the waters, bringing the Western back to the forefront with the Magnificent Seven remake and The Hateful Eight. In its heyday, the Western WAS the superhero film and though many would assume Grand Theft Auto would be the first Rockstar game to be adapted, Red Dead Redemption has a very unique flavour and wears its Hollywood inspirations on its sleeve.

John Marston is a complex character, attempting to do the right thing after being taken from his family and forced to destroy his old gang once and for all. The game is set during 1911, the beginning of automation in industry and the last hurrah of the cowboy - a backdrop not often visited, providing a great subtext for the potential film.

With a picturesque setting and a crew of characters you wouldn't turn your back on for one minute, Red Dead Redemption could provide Hollywood with a golden opportunity to bring the Western back to the big screen in a huge way, especially with fans clamouring for a new outing for the franchise.
